This could be bad news for “Heroes” fans. Real bad news.

Sources at NBC have told Airlock Alpha that the inevitable is finally happening: Networks executives will ask “Heroes” producers to wind the series down, possibly with an overall finale by May.

“There isn’t much happening with this show in terms of audience, and giving it a ‘final chapter’ feel is something the network is considering to help allow the show to go out with a bang,” said the source, who asked not to be identified.

One thing to stress, however, is that no final decision has been made yet, and likely won’t be made until closer to mid-season. The source was not even clear if a wrap-up directive had been issued to “Heroes” quite yet. If it hasn’t, it will.

“I don’t think this should surprise anybody,” the source said. “The writing has been on the wall for some time.

However, none of this has been confirmed by NBC quite yet, and should be treated as any rumor would.

Even “Heroes” is taking a Halloween theme next week. Claire and Gretchen are being hazed by their new sorority sisters but they quickly realize that it is not just a game when during the scavenger hunt, it is possible to die.

Elsewhere, Sam is attempting to clean Sylar’s memory by helping him to retrieve his. Matt goes to extreme measures to extinguish Sylar, who continues to torment him. Meanwhile, H.R.G. calls in a favor from Tracy to save a troubled young boy whose misfortunes resemble her own.

“Strange Attractors” is scheduled to air on Monday, October 26.

On another news, Executive Producer Adam Armus has just confirmed to Sci Fi Wire that a major character is indeed going to die this season and it will be a ‘he’. “We always pull surprises on Heroes. That’s all I have to say. It is an epic battle. It’s an epic struggle between two very well-loved characters, and it’s going to be really compelling,” Armus elaborated.
